We are facing a new edition of Festival Jazz Terrassa excited to be able to offer an uptaded and fresh program of events and discover "top" figures from the domestic and international jazz universe in unpublished and exclusive productions in Catalonia. We also maintain our commitment to the cultural organizations of the city with links that enable a long list of parallel activities such as exhibitions, documentaries, children's workshops, master classes, jam sessions and dance swing meetings.
Emerging figures from the New York scene will be in Terrassa for the first time, certifying why they are considered among the most amazing jazzmen of the moment. The young saxophonist and composer Immanuel Wilkins will present for the first time his recent and acclaimed album The 7th Hand, full of empathy and conviction, and that intertwines melody and epic. In turn, the versatile and award-winning Emmet Cohen will show off a fresh and catchy piano in the art of the trio.
Double bass star Christian McBride will unfold his powerful rhythmic strut with the formidable band Inside Straight, in a repertoire of originals and classics by Duke Ellington and Freddie Hubbard. One of the most long-awaited concert of an artistic program of the highest category to which are added three guitarists of impact in one of the unpublished evenings in the Nova Jazz Cava: the Swede Ulf Wakenius, the African-American Mark Whitfield and the French musician Christian Escoudé, the musicians who lead the Guitar Conference project.
Vocal jazz could not be missed in the 41st Festival Jazz Terrassa. The elegant and experienced Judy Niemack is the international representative in a special production for the FJT that brings together different generations of artists. On the one hand, Detroit piano master Kirk Lightsey and a revelation, such as Dutch saxophonist Gideon Tazelaar.

Also another golden voice, Carme Canela, revisits a masterpiece of Brazilian music in her new album Celebrating La Fusa, conceived by Bahia guitarist Jurandir Santana. A double session that is completed with the presentation of Migra, the new quintet project of the Portuguese singer Marta Garrett and the saxophonist Irene Reig, a new step in the stellar trajectory of these young creators.
Two great orchestral ensembles are premiered at the Nova Jazz Cava. The Barcelona Art Orchestra will present a new project and album. In Ragtime Stories, BAO proposes a contemporary review of the genre with chamber brushstrokes. In Latin “key”, The Cuban Swing Express, the super band led by Ivan "Melón" Lewis debuts in Catalonia. Winner of the 2021 Grammy Award for "Best Latin Jazz Record", the pianist from Santa Clara combines Cuban classical sounds with contemporary elements.
The traditional "Blues Night" brings us closer to the Chicago sound of the vocal tandem formed by guitarist John Primer and harmonica player Keith Dunn. The acoustic and root project "Evening With The Real Blues" will be released for the first time in Catalonia.
It is stimulating to recover historical scenes such as Plaça Vella and Plaça Catalunya to share musical moments in the long-awaited morning outdoors, where we will hear the powerful R&B of the Rambalaya, the sophisticated vocalist Laia Porta in front of her sextet, the jazz group modern Roommates led by the Valencian trumpeter Voro García, and the transnational project International Classic Jazz All Stars Feat. Howard Allen & Dan Barrett.
Parc de Sant Jordi repeats in this edition as a closing stage with the performances of the quintet of the great piano lady from Vilanova i la Geltrú, Elisabet Raspall, and the "swing machine" of Professor Cunningham and his Old School.
Regarding the 19th Jazzterrasman Prize, this year it goes to Ignasi Terraza (Barcelona, 1962), the most international of our active pianists. His 42 years of artistic career run parallel to the Terrassa jazz club. His relentless imagination, unmatched swing and extraordinary mastery of the piano make him deserving of the highest distinction of the Terrassa Jazz Festival.
The organization of the Jazz Club of Amics de les Arts i Joventuts Musicals is grateful for the support of sponsors and collaborators, and invites you to participate throughout 19 days. The offer is diverse, intense and extensive with more than fifty concerts and activities starring more than 220 musicians, which will take place in 20 spaces in Terrassa, Matadepera, Vacarisses and Viladecavalls. An edition dedicated to the 25 years that have passed without Lou Bennett and Tete Montoliu.
Poster
Native from Terrassa and graduated in Fine Arts, the author of the poster, Carme Aliaga, is an artist closely linked to the city. His creations are the result of reflection on the transience of memory and the stimulation of memories. His method is based on construction-destruction and material manipulation to capture pigmented layers, grafted sediments of colors and torn textures with the desire that time and memory melt and disappear. Using the mixed collage and take-off technique, Aliaga wanted to "recover the idea of old retro-spirited photography as opposed to a more up-to-date image with a more abstract background and more colorful fragments." The painter highlights the expressiveness of an anonymous singer, who "exudes vitality and optimism in the face of the current era of covered mouths." A tribute to the pioneers of jazz starring the image of the FJT 2022 poster.
