Tribute to Lou Bennett
The Terrassa Jazz Club wants to remember Lou Bennett and Tete Montoliu, who played together on so many nights in Terrassa, on the tenth anniversary of their death. Lou Bennett was particularly closely associated with the club during its time as the old den from 1971 to 1985, a period from which a thousand anecdotes still survive, such as the difficulty getting the Bennett Machine down the impossible stairs at the club on Carrer Sant Quirze. This self-invented organ was a big band in miniature; it played the piano, organ, metal instruments, vibraphone and more. In fact, he used to play as a duo with a drummer because he could do the bass himself.
The ensemble paying the tribute is headed up by organist Benjamin Leon, one of Bennett’s students and disciples.
