És considerat un dels millors pianistes de jazz per la premsa internacional. Nascut a Roma el 1965, Antonio Farao va assistir a un curs de formació clàssica amb Adriano Della Giustina i Riccardo Risalti al Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi de Milà.
Des d’adolescent ha destacat pel seu talent i ha participat als festivals internacionals Umbría Jazz, Estival jazz Lugano, Maastricht, Tel Aviv, North Sea…entre altres. Tanmateix ha rebut varis premis: Premio Nuevo Talento Musical Review el 1987, Premio Four roses com a pianista de l’any el 1991, primer Premio Martial Solal a París.
Col·labora regularment amb noms coneguts de l’escena del jazz com Jack Dejohnette, Bireli Lagrène, Didier Lockwood, Joe Lovano, Benny Golson, Lenny White, entre d’altres.
