The 31 FESTIVAL Jazz Terrassa will be in memoriam of the saxophonist and clarinetist Ricard Roda
(Barcelona, 1931 – La Seu d’Urgell, 2010).
A jazz pioneer in Catalunya, his relationship with Terrassa started in the year 1964 with the occasion of the trumpeter Bill Coleman concert at the Casino del Comerç. Three years later, in 1967, he performed for the first time at the "seu dels Amics de les Arts" with the Latin Combo band. Since then, Roda played and performed many times and in many diverse jazz locals in the city, including the unforgettable participation within the 1988 Festival Jazz Terrassa, an opportunity that took him to be known by the big public.
The professional relationship between the music from Barcelona and the city of Terrassa did finish in 1995, a terrible year, where Ricard find himself obliged to abandon the scenarios. Even though, the extraordinary sound of his “alto” impregnated forever the Nova Jazz Cava walls.
